INTERNATIONAL CONTEMPORARY MASTERS V. 10

We believe that our vision of publishing an annual chronicle of the visual ne arts from all over the world is being vindicated, and the mosaic we are creating is growing ever richer as time goes on. Our approach is an eclectic one; we are not aligned with any particular school or doctrine. On the contrary, we make a conscious effort to feature the broadest possible range of media, genres and styles. Our criteria are simply creative vision, originality and technical excellence in whatever medium each artist chooses to utilize.

“World Wide Art Books is proud to present the ninth volume of “International Contemporary Masters”. In this volume the jury and I have selected 100 artists whose art we believe is interesting and representative as to what happens in art today. The book series, International Contemporary Masters, serves as a visual montage of influential modern art in today’s world, as it exists across the globe. Art is not bound by one medium or movement and is pursued regardless of power or pro t. In this spirit, this book is inclusive of both classic and contemporary art forms, united for the unique purpose of reflecting this moment in art.” – Despina Tunberg

One of the most interesting observations I ever heard about these books of ours was that such a collection has a cathartic and therapeutic effect on the reader because of the huge range of emotions and sensations it provokes. That being exposed to so many different worlds is a tremendous journey. Perhaps this whole aspect of art as therapy and balm for the soul – or a road to searching out oneself – is one that should be explored and publicized, because this is clearly a very important, and under-appreciated, side of art. And clearly, a large anthology such as this is an excellent vehicle for such a journey.

The art of curation consists of many elements, but as with art, in general, the foremost rule is that there are no rules. As difficult as this makes the role of the curator, it also allows for pure aesthetic sensibility to predominate. For all the importance of art history and contemporary art discourse, for me what is most important in selecting a work is that it speaks to me in a simple, natural way and compels me to place its aesthetic qualities in my sensory archive. In other words, the connection between a work of art and a viewer is more rooted in emotion than in context. Everyone is entitled to feeling passionate about a work of art and aesthetic opinions can only be grounded on pure freedom

Artistic creations have multiple sides but mainly the artists are trying to show the world their own feelings: their pain, their struggles, their own way of seeing things, their fears, their concerns, their own world, their own truth! Besides all its other purposes, art is the only thing that is created for the pleasure of the eye; to make the world more beautiful, – and it really does! Imagine the world without music, without sculpture, without paintings! How would it be? Gray maybe…

” Often I am asked if this is a book for emerging artists, but it would not be entirely accurate to answer affirmatively. Many are well-known already, and many have long and distinguished careers to their credit. Others are just start- ing out. So I prefer simply to stay with the adjective “noteworthy” – noteworthy for their originality and freshness, and note- worthy for the mastery of their technique and medium. “ – Thomas Tunberg

The juxtaposition of subject and object, creator and creation, gives rise to an interesting question: how far can the evaluation of an artwork go without the entry into the equation of the person of the artist? Clearly, a work of art, especially when viewed directly in situ, stands alone and on its own merit, and we need to know nothing about the artist to appreciate it.

Photography has long changed the defnition of art and what the camera as a medium brings to focus is not only the maker’s technical know-how but also their unique way of seeing, framing and capturing remarkable moments in time. A great photograph can be captured in just seconds, even accidentally or it can take months or years of meticulous preparation and determination for the perfect timing to come together for that perfect click.

INTERNATIONAL MASTERS of PHOTOGRAPHY v. 2

Published in 2014

This second volume follows the same approach that we established last year with the rst book of the series: to include the broadest possible spectrum of the art of photography created by talented practitioners from all over the world, to create a panoramic chronicle of this most lively and rapidly developing of all the visual arts. Again, we include not only well-established and well-known photographers, but also younger, emerging and often unknown talent. The common denominator, we believe, is just this last: talent. And each talent, as we think the viewer of these pages will ascertain, is different. It is interesting that in an art which was once belittled as being a mere recording of reality could foster such strong individual identity in its expression. In fact, one could say that this quality of identity is one of the most important markers of artistic talent in photography.
