INTERNATIONAL CONTEMPORARY MASTERS V. 15

Published in 2023

“This book represents a significant milestone for us as it marks the 15th volume of International Contemporary Masters, our longest-running art anthology series. The inaugural volume of this series, our first art anthology, was published 17 years ago in 2006. With the release of this present book, World Wide Art Books will have published a total of 32 art anthologies. From the outset, our intention was to create an ongoing chronicle of what is new and noteworthy in contemporary art worldwide. We firmly believe that our vision has been vindicated, as our books have become a recognized standard and a valuable resource for art professionals, collectors, enthusiasts, and educators alike.

Within this volume, we proudly present the works of 67 artists hailing from diverse corners of the globe, representing a wide range of mediums. Each artist showcased in this collection has contributed a noteworthy piece that offers a unique and captivating perspective.”

INTERNATIONAL CONTEMPORARY MASTERS V. 14

Published in 2021

“This volume is the 14th in the International Contemporary Masters series, our oldest art anthology. To date, World Wide Art Books has published a total of 28 anthologies, which we think is a not inconsiderable achievement for an art publisher.

In all these books, we have presented the work of nearly 4000 artists from nearly every part of the world, and have helped to launch many careers.

When we started this collection of books back in 2006, it was our conviction that there are no longer centers of gravity in the art world or dominant schools of schools of art. Rather, art has become decentralized and diffused all over the world, as it was long, long ago, but now it has become hugely varied, in genres, concept and approaches. To approach this enormous and extremely variegated mass, we decided to create an ongoing chronicle, each piece of which we would try to make as inhomogeneous and varied as possible, in genre, style, and origins of the artists.

After so many books and the acceptance the books have met with, we feel that our approach has been vindicated. The books have become a recognized standard, a resource for art professionals, collectors, art lovers and teachers.

We trust that this fourteenth volume of our oldest series will not disappoint. We present here the works of some 66 artists, each very different, and as usual from every part of the world. Some are quite well-known and established, others are just beginning their careers. But what each possesses is an original creative vision, and a proficiency in their chosen medium. Each deserves further examination and attention.

And so we continue.”

INTERNATIONAL CONTEMPORARY MASTERS V. 13

Published in 2019

It seems hard to believe, but here we are writing the introduction to the 13th Volume of International Contemporary Masters! And if we add our other art anthologies, this is the 25th volume to be published by World Wide Art Books, over a span of 13 years. In these books, we have presented the work of over 2,500 artists, from practically every country in the world, about half of these in the International Contemporary Masters series.

We have printed a total of over 150,000 books, and the total readership of all the digital books numbers in the tens of millions.

This is not a small achievement.

When we first started this endeavor, back in 2006, our mission was to create a year to year chronicle of noteworthy contemporary art being created all over the world. We considered that there are no more centers, no more dominant schools or doctrines or directions in art. No orthodoxies, no judges, no arbiters. Just a vast diversity. Democratic, or rather, anarchic.

Our approach was simple: to present the work of noteworthy artists from all over the world. The word “noteworthy”, of course, contains a certain subjectivism. For us, it contains two main criteria: something original, an element of inspiration, vision, originality. And secondly, a mastery in the artist’s given medium. But beyond this, to present each artist’s work without comment, to let it speak for itself.

Thirteen years later, we think this approach is vindicated. The books have become a recognized standard, a resource for art professionals, collectors, art lovers and teachers.

We intend to continue on this path as long as we can, and we hope that when we can no longer do so, others will carry the torch forward.

INTERNATIONAL CONTEMPORARY MASTERS V. 12

Published in 2018

It is always a moving occasion to preface a new book, a new chapter in our ever-expanding chronicle of art from all over the world. Twelve years ago, we published the first volume of International Contemporary Masters, a slim volume with the ambitious goal: to be the start of a constantly lengthening and unfolding presentation of noteworthy art created in our times by artists from every corner of our planet. Today, with 12 volumes in the International Contemporary Masters series and 8 other anthologies, we can say that we have succeeded beyond our expectations. International Contemporary Masters and our other contemporary art anthologies Current Masters and Important World Artists have become a valued resource for art lovers, collectors, researchers, students and teachers, art consultants, gallery owners and other art professionals.

Both the subject matter and the reach of our books extend all over the world. It has been our contention from the very beginning that great art is not only being created in centers of the art world such as New York and London but in every continent and country, in remote villages as well as huge urban centers. It is a point of pride with us that we are helping artists whose work might otherwise remain unknown to broadcast it far and wide. International Contemporary Masters Volume 12 is not an exception to the rule. This book presents 53 artists from 27 countries, with creation in almost every medium of the visual fine arts that can be presented on a printed page. We believe the vibrancy of their creations speaks for itself.

We believe that our vision of publishing an annual chronicle of the visual ne arts from all over the world is being vindicated, and the mosaic we are creating is growing ever richer as time goes on. Our approach is an eclectic one; we are not aligned with any particular school or doctrine. On the contrary, we make a conscious effort to feature the broadest possible range of media, genres and styles. Our criteria are simply creative vision, originality and technical excellence in whatever medium each artist chooses to utilize.

“World Wide Art Books is proud to present the ninth volume of “International Contemporary Masters”. In this volume the jury and I have selected 100 artists whose art we believe is interesting and representative as to what happens in art today. The book series, International Contemporary Masters, serves as a visual montage of influential modern art in today’s world, as it exists across the globe. Art is not bound by one medium or movement and is pursued regardless of power or pro t. In this spirit, this book is inclusive of both classic and contemporary art forms, united for the unique purpose of reflecting this moment in art.” – Despina Tunberg

One of the most interesting observations I ever heard about these books of ours was that such a collection has a cathartic and therapeutic effect on the reader because of the huge range of emotions and sensations it provokes. That being exposed to so many different worlds is a tremendous journey. Perhaps this whole aspect of art as therapy and balm for the soul – or a road to searching out oneself – is one that should be explored and publicized, because this is clearly a very important, and under-appreciated, side of art. And clearly, a large anthology such as this is an excellent vehicle for such a journey.

The art of curation consists of many elements, but as with art, in general, the foremost rule is that there are no rules. As difficult as this makes the role of the curator, it also allows for pure aesthetic sensibility to predominate. For all the importance of art history and contemporary art discourse, for me what is most important in selecting a work is that it speaks to me in a simple, natural way and compels me to place its aesthetic qualities in my sensory archive. In other words, the connection between a work of art and a viewer is more rooted in emotion than in context. Everyone is entitled to feeling passionate about a work of art and aesthetic opinions can only be grounded on pure freedom

Artistic creations have multiple sides but mainly the artists are trying to show the world their own feelings: their pain, their struggles, their own way of seeing things, their fears, their concerns, their own world, their own truth! Besides all its other purposes, art is the only thing that is created for the pleasure of the eye; to make the world more beautiful, – and it really does! Imagine the world without music, without sculpture, without paintings! How would it be? Gray maybe…
